Barbara E. TrumanDirector, Course Development and Web Services As director of UCF's Course Development and Web Services unit, I rally the staff comprised of wild and crazy, creatively talented people (and lots of students), who love coffee, work and eat all the time, and are fearless. We do all things Web. I work for Joel Hartman, Vice Provost of Information Technologies & Resources. Words cannot describe my pride and joy in working with the great people at UCF! My position was created within Academic Affairs in the Summer of '96 specifically to create a faculty development program for online learning. The CD&WS unit was created a year later in 1997. In early 1996, I assisted Steve Sorg in the design and delivery of his World Wide Web course, the first UCF course to be offered fully on the Web. My background is in instructional technology and desk-top publishing. You can find out more than you ever wanted to know about me from my personal Web page. btruman@mail.ucf.edu

John SharkeyAssistant Director, Web Services I am the Assistant Director for CDWS, focusing on the Web Services part of our mission. I previously worked as the Webmaster and Marketing and Communications Manager for a large Florida non-profit organization. I received my MBA from UCF, and worked as a multimedia-marketing manager for one of the nation's top audio entertainment companies. I've been lucky enough to help develop numerous Web sites -- from those with large telecommunication and publishing companies, to those with many small businesses. I enjoy project management and advanced Web site development, developing strategic plans and strategies, generating involvement and feedback, and marketing and promotions. My interests include golf (I was once a professional golfer), singing and guitar, and being active with my neighborhood in downtown Orlando. jsharkey@mail.ucf.edu |
Kelvin ThompsonAssistant Director, Professional Programs ![]()
I have been with Course Development & Web Services since April 1998. At present, I serve as the Coordinator of Professional Programs, working to distribute what we are finding out about "teaching, learning, and using the web" to individuals and institutions beyond the UCF community. I'm a native Floridian (a rare species) and grew up in the northeastern most corner of Florida, Nassau county, in a little town called Yulee. In the past I have been: a conductor, an administrative assistant, a worship leader and small groups coordinator, a music teacher, and a technology coordinator. Some of my duties have included development of instructional materials, publicizing organizational events, training of adult learners and children, group facilitation, video production, web design, MIDI sequencing, voice-overs, and musical performances. I've always loved "gadgets" and started using computers in college. I also have a passion for learning and for understanding how people learn differently. Over time, I came to see an enormous amount of potential for technology to affect learning. I have one wife (Wendy) and two cats (Lou and Missy). Wendy is an incredible educator in the Seminole county (Florida) school system!! (Lou and Missy beg for food.) One of the things Wendy and I enjoy doing is taking our mountain bikes out for a spin (even in hotel rooms!!). I hold a B.M.E. from Florida State University (principal instruments: trumpet and voice) and an M.A. in Instructional Systems Technology from the University of Central Florida. I am currently a doctoral student in the Curriculum and Instruction program at UCF. One of my favorite quotes: "In times of change, learners inherit the earth while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists." |
