Project Summary: UCF Web Site Redesign

The newly redesigned University of Central Florida (UCF) Web site strives to help the university achieve its strategic goals. Links to information vital to student recruitment and enrollment have been placed prominently on the homepage and secondary pages. News headlines as well as links for external constituents, alumni, and the business community have been prominently placed for easy access. The University Marketing and the News and Information offices both play key roles in determining site content.

Generations

In June 2004, UCF hosted a professional development event sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), Educause, and Microsoft Corporation. Twelve universities were selected to send teams that included their presidents, provosts, and chief information officers.

Students employed by Course Development & Web Services (CDWS) presented technology parlors during a reception at this professional development event. The students were then invited to present at Educause's annual meeting for the National Learning Infrastructure Initiative.

Project Summary: News and Information

The goal of the News and Information redesign project (pdf) was to update the look, add features, and simplify site navigation. The redesign included integrating Conviveon's SiteConnect, a site-management system which enables users to personalize and maintain Web content. SiteConnect alleviates the process of creating an HTML page, formatting it for display in the browser, structuring the content with the design, and creating an archiving process. Now News & Information can easily publish content with minimal steps and time.

Project Summary: UCF Campus Map Redesign

The goal of the campus map redesign project (pdf) was to create an application that could be more easily updated and maintained. The previous version, based on HTML and JavaScript, had limited functionality and was not easily modified. The process required many hours of work from New Media, Advanced Systems, Digital Media, Techrangers, and Web Strategy - five teams within the unit of CDWS.
